Usually, about the second week of February, I'm clucking about the fact that I have daffodils already, and worrying about my lilacs, and futzing about how once again I missed the chance to prune my roses properly, because its already too warm.
Not this year.
This year, we were hit by Snowmageddon just as the bulbs were showing their delicate green points. Valentine's day came and went, because I couldn't even find my roses under all that snow. I wouldn't call this a normal year, but it is closer to what I remember growing up in Virginia. Here we are heading into mid-March, and we finally have some warmth, spring is coming at last. None of this namby-pamby couple weeks of winter stuff. This is real winter.
And I hope we have a real spring to go with it.
